St Clements - Faith in the Future

Our Vision

In 2000, we began a vision journey to find a renewed sense of purpose and direction.

Our journey began with consultations, taking in the views of the laity, church council, and clergy. As a church we decided to focus our ministry in five areas: Worship, Community, Education, Pastoral Care, and Finance. Our first Five-Year Plan has now come to completion, and we start a new Five-Year Plan with a re-organization of our ministry into five Vision Groups:

Ministry Vision Group

This is a new Vision area, encompassing and building on the work of the Worship and Pastoral Vision Groups, and of the Music and Vocations Groups.

As a growing community, we must ensure that the pastoral needs of our own, and that of the wider, community are met. Establishing new cell-groups and strengthening existing ones such as Choir, Fellowship and social groups will require a new focus and energy. The success of past retreats warrants scheduling of regular retreats, and introducing visits to Holy places and Parish family holidays. Joined-up thinking with the Education Vision Group will take music and worship into schools and care homes.

The Ministry Vision umbrella is quite large; involving teams of existing and new members who will generate new ideas to expand our pastoral work, musical opportunities, and links with other Vision Groups.

Education Vision Group

As this Vision Group moves into the next stage, we need to consolidate our achievements. A revitalised umbrella group will provide much needed support to the various aspects of education. Our first priority is to provide terms of reference to the Vision Group as it coordinates and brings a new vision to adult education (Emmaus, Lent groups, Bible Study), the schools programme, Friday Youth Club, Stepping Stones, and support for those newly admitted to Communion. We seek new opportunities for proclaiming the gospel of Jesus Christ in every generation.

Social Justice Vision Group

As Christians, the God we pray to and worship is the God of the poor. The God we meet in the Bible, through His Son Jesus tells us we cannot honestly worship Him or speak His truth, unless we are in solidarity with people who are poor, oppressed and powerless.

As a Christian community, we seek to rise to this challenge. This Vision Group aims to raise awareness of community issues at local, national and international level. We need to discover ways to encourage the giving of time and energy in support of matters of social justice and the overcoming of oppression. Part of our work is to emphasise and to co-ordinate charitable giving as an intrinsic part of the life and work of St Clement's.

Media & Communications Vision Group

As the new corporate identity increases in usage and visibility, we now move on to new projects which assist St. Clement's to proclaim the Gospel of Jesus Christ in every generation. Incorporating more forms of media in our internally-produced publications enhances the communication of what St. Clement's does, and is, about. Assisting the community in paper and office supply reduction demonstrates our commitment to caring for God's Creation. Forging stronger relationships with places to advertise, print and radio assists St. Clement's in embedding itself more deeply into the community of Chorlton. This group works to enhance your visibility as you proclaim the Gospel in words and actions!

Finance & General Purposes Vision Group

As we continue the ministries of a thriving church community, the financial situation of St Clement’s must remain strong. We have moved to a position of understanding our finances and to managing them well. As a community, we need to support our ministries with the wealth that God bestows upon us. Each of us needs to consider our financial contribution to St Clement’s so that we can continue our growth and give back to God. By re-evaluating our commitment to St Clement’s, we can increase our contributions in order to ensure a positive bank balance and to maintain the fabric of the buildings. We have seen a dramatic increase in the use of both St Clement’s and St Barnabas. Hall rentals needs shrewd and careful management, and a body of volunteers in order for it to continue as a source of not only revenue for the Church, but as outreach and mission.
